COMMENT POLICY

Last Revised: December 22, 2014

At AmericanLiberalReview.com (“The American Liberal Review,” “ALR,” “Website,” or “Site”) comments posted in response to The American Liberal Review‘s articles or blog posts are extremely important to ALR in order to facilitate the goal of promoting thoughtful and robustly stimulating dialogue and debate on the Site. As such, ALR has outlined a Comment Policy in order to facilitate such goal as well as clarifying the rules of which govern how the Site treats comments.

In light of this, please read the following Comment Policy before accessing, using, or submitting a comment on the The American Liberal Review or its social media sites at Facebook, Flickr, Google+, TwitterYouTube (collectively known as “ALR Social Media”). By accessing, using, or commenting on, ALR or ALR Social Media, you understand, acknowledge, and agree to be legally bound by this Policy.

With that out of the way, the Comment Policy is as follows:

The American Liberal Review pre-moderates comments on its blog posts. ALR never censors comments based on an ideological, political, and/or religious point of view. However, it reserves the right to block and/or delete those comments on its Website and ALR Social Media that include the following transgressions:

1. Libelous statements or threats to fellow commentators or others.

2. Comments infringing upon the copyright or intellectual property rights of others, and/or other applicable laws or regulations.

3. Comments containing racist, sexist, ageist, homophobic, and other types of disparaging slurs.

4. Ad hominem attacks that include, but not limited to, comments celebrating the death or illness of any individual, public figure, or anyone otherwise.

5. Abusive, off-topic, and/or excessive foul language. (Four letter words are not banned, but ALR asks that such language be used sparingly as their overuse undermines an atmosphere of lively, civil, intelligent, and mature discourse and debate.)

6. Comments meant to be spam (including, but not limited to, thread spamming, i.e., a commentator posting the same comment elsewhere on ALR or ALR Social Media), solicitations, and/or advertising for products or services.

Now, because The American Liberal Review is an online venue that encourages civil, lively, passionate, intelligent, and mature discussions, please keep mind that insults and personal attacks make it impossible to encourage such enlivening exchanges. As such, if you are uncertain as to what is permissible when commenting to a blog or social media post(s) at ALR or ALR Social Media, follow this common sense guide: Would you, in real-life, use a particular word(s) or language to another person at a civil or thoughtful discussion? If not, then please don’t do it on the Website or ALR Social Media.

Note:

The Commenter retains the copyright to all his or her Comments (in any language, regardless of the form or medium, with respect to such content, whether text, videos, photographs, audio or otherwise) that he or she posts on The American Liberal Review and the ALR Social Media’s Comment Sections. (The Comment Sections are the “Leave a Comment” section that is located below a post or page portion of ALR, and the sections of ALR Social Media sites that are designated for submitting comments.)

However, by submitting a Comment to The American Liberal Review and/or ALR Social Media, the Commenter grants ALR and its owner, Gemelito Laluna (“Owner”), without monetary and/or non-monetary compensation or any combination thereof, the royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive right and license to use, adapt, broadcast, modify, post, publish, re-edit, reproduce, store, translate, transmit, create derivative works from, distribute, and display the Comment for any purposes (including, without limitation, promotions and marketing), and to incorporate such comment, for any purpose (including, without limitation, promotions and marketing) in other works, on any website, in any language, form, medium, media, or technology now known or later developed.

Moreover, The American Liberal Review and its Owner reserve the right to edit, delete, move, or mark as spam any and all Comments to the Website and at ALR Social Media. The American Liberal Review and its Owner also have the right, where possible, to block access to any person, group, or entity who violates ALR‘s comment policies, as outlined in Section IV and Section V of the TAC, from commenting, or from the entire Website and ALR Social Media without prior and/or further notice.

Finally, because there is a potential risk of any and all technical or nontechnical glitches or malfunctions (including, without limitation, those arising from application; computer systems; computer or mobile phone equipment; failure of e-mail or players due to technical problems or Internet traffic congestion or in connection with this Website; hosting services; servers or providers; software; telephone networks or services; and/or The American Liberal Review, ALR Social Media, Automattic, WordPress.orgWordPress.com, Jetpack, or from any other source), you should be aware the Website and its Owner neither assume responsibility nor are they liable for Comments lost or destroyed as a result, as well as any and all damages, harm, loss, or injury resulting therefrom.

NoteThe American Liberal Review is a self-hosted website, powered by WordPress.org, that connects to the Jetpack service that relies on WordPress.com servers. (Automattic is the web development company that owns WordPress.org, WordPress.com, and Jetpack.)
